Sustainable Finance Workshop

The aims of this workshop were to analyse the strengths and possible challenges in introducing an EU-wide taxonomy on green finance, discuss whether it should be based on the EIB approach, and assess how such a taxonomy would help investors.

In the first panel, participants focused on addressing what exactly the EU-wide taxonomy is, the applicability of the EIB’s taxonomy, and what national taxonomies are already in use in Member States. The second panel explored how the taxonomy would be applied to financial services, how it would be used in investment decisions, and whether its introduction would lead to green finance.

We welcomed Eila Kreivi, Director and Head of Capital Markets Department, European Investment Bank, Olivier Guersent, Director General, DG Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, European Commission, Molly Scott Cato, MEP (Greens/EFA, UK) and other leading speakers on this relevant issue.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders in Brussels concurrently with the 2nd Ministerial Meeting on Climate Action which began on 20 June 2018.
