Annual Fintech Conference

Afore Consulting is organising its 4th Annual Fintech and Regulation Conference on 3 March 2020. This conference has become the go-to event on Fintech regulation, attracting approximately 450 attendees every year from the regulatory and supervisory community, the EU institutions, industry, start-ups and other stakeholders. In 2019, we were in particular pleased to have with us more than 150 regulators and supervisors, including very senior keynote addresses, both from the EU as well as international speakers.

The 2019 Fintech and Regulation conference came at an important juncture in the European political cycle. One year after the formal launch of the European Commission’s Action Plan on FinTech, the keynotes and panels took stock how technology and the financial services industry has evolved, what progress the EU has made on its policy objectives and, importantly, helped set out some of the policy and regulatory priorities for the incoming European Parliament and European Commission.

Working closely with the European Commission we have identified four main themes for the conference in 2020. These are: how to best organise from a regulatory and supervisory standpoint the relationship between supervised entities and third party technology providers; how technology and FinTech can contribute to completing Capital Markets Union; the role of global technology companies in financial services and what are the opportunities and threats arising from an open infrastructure for technology in retail finance. No doubt, we will also again be touching on crypto assets, AI and cyber security.

This year, we will again have a stellar lineup of speakers. These include – Vilius Šapoka, the Minister of Finance of Lithuania, Jose Manuel Campa, Chair of EBA, Steven Maijoor, Chair of ESMA, Jean-Paul Servais, Chair of FSMA and Vice-Chair of IOSCO Board, Carmine Di Noia, Commissioner of CONSOB, Mārtiņš Kazāks, Member of Council of the Bank of Latvia, Derville Rowland, Director-General at the Central Bank of Ireland, Tom Mutton, Director of Fintech at the Bank of England, Christopher Woolard, Board Member and Executive Director of the FCA, Steve Purser, Head of Core Operations Department of ENISA, as well as senior participants from the European Commission.
